Meet Our Crane Apprentices: Rising Talent in Action

APD is proud to highlight our Crane Apprentices, Thyrell Thompson and Leo Hepburn, who are currently training to become the next generation of Mobile Harbour Crane Operators.

Through structured mentorship and hands-on learning, these apprentices are mastering the art and science of heavy-equipment operation, a critical skill that keeps cargo moving efficiently through Nassau Container Port.

Simulation Training Abroad

In August, Thyrell and Leo traveled to the Liebherr Simulation Centre in Florida for two weeks of intensive training with Mr. Joseph Braustin.

Using advanced crane simulators, they developed technical precision, operational awareness and safety-focused decision-making in a controlled environment before transitioning to live equipment.

Training at Home

Now back in Nassau, the apprentices continue their development through:

  • Desk-based technical instruction
  • On-the-job training
  • Live operational experience aboard our cranes

Under the guidance of experienced operators, they are building the confidence and competence required to operate in a high-performance port environment.

Investing in the Future

APD’s experienced crane operators have long upheld the high standards that keep cargo moving safely and efficiently. The apprenticeship program builds on that strong foundation, preparing the next generation to carry forward a legacy of excellence.

Look up next time you’re near our berth, the operator in the seat just might be one of our rising talents.
