Nassau Container Port is a strategically located port facility for container and general cargo shipping in the Caribbean, and beyond to North America and the world. The 56-acre port facility is located on Arawak Cay, just two miles west of Downtown Nassau at the mouth of Nassau Harbor.

The port provides facilities for both domestic and international bulk, break bulk, container and project cargo clients. Importers can use several ocean carriers simultaneously and conduct all business at Arawak Cay.

In compliance with the standards of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code, the port features around-the-clock security guards, perimeter fencing, and surveillance cameras to ensure the highest level of security.

HOURS OF OPERATIONS

Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – public holidays excluded. The port will accommodate requests to serve carriers and importers outside of the regular operating hours; additional fees and rules will apply.

TERMINALS

The Nassau Container Port is comprised of 3 terminals – a Container Terminal, Bulk Terminal, and Break Bulk Terminal. The Container Terminal comprises 32 acres and has a draft of 28 feet at mean water level (MWL). The Bulk Terminal occupies 7 acres and has bulk cement storage capacity of 8,000 tons and dry bulk aggregate storage capacity of 100,000 tons. The terminal offers 800 feet of berth and 28 feet draft at MWL. The Break Bulk Terminal comprises 10 acres, contains 25,000 square feet of cargo transit shed, and offers 600 feet of berth at 21 feet of draft at MWL.

TERMINAL OPERATIONS

APD Limited is the owner and operator of the Nassau Container Port and the Gladstone Freight Terminal. The port is supported by various terminal operators, including Arawak Stevedering Limited (ASL), 24/7 Port Security, Bahamas Customs Department, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Environmental Health Services.

EQUIPMENT

The Container Terminal utilizes three 320-ton Liebherr Mobile Harbour Cranes, each capable of 35 lifts an hour and lifting 104 tons. With all three cranes in service, the port expects to be able to handle increasing amounts of shipping traffic for years to come.

SECURITY

Security is a top priority at the Nassau Container Port. The port complies with the standards of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code. Every member of APD Limited’s staff compliment are ISPS certified. Around-the-clock security guards, perimeter fencing, and surveillance cameras ensure the highest level of security. Likewise, the Gladstone Freight Terminal is extensively monitored by surveillance cameras and supported by the presence of the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

CUSTOMS

Comprehensive Customs Services, including entry processing, is located in the Port’s 25,000-square-foot Administrative Building.

The Bahamas Customs Department at Nassau Container Port is a full-service facility and a one-stop-shop for duty entry, processing and release of cargo.
